Why Should I Get Counseling Now?

To postpone any issue of concern is to risk a loss of some kind.
The longer it is postponed the greater the possibility of loss.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Could your personal health suffer?
  • Could you experience an increase in your stress, anxiety levels, possibly leading to burnout?
  • Could it cost you a relationship or at the least cause greater suffering by delaying?
  • Could it cost you your job, promotion, or raise?
  • By postponing help could it impact your finances?
  • Could you find yourself taking on new problems such as struggling with addictions or through the use of unhealthy means finding ways to cope with your situation, thereby causing more undue stress?

When you consider the potential problems that postponement could incur, it would be reasonable to consider counseling as an inexpensive option rather than having to face more problematic consequences.  Remember, you are worth investing in and counseling is an investment.  The greatest resource you possess is yourself: your health, your peace of mind, and your future!

Won’t Bringing Up Things Make Things Worse?

Sharing your deepest, darkest secrets won’t make things worse for you. On the contrary, through honest openness, no matter how difficult, wholeness has come to many people that we have counselled.  Our professionals are all trained, compassionate individuals who desire to see you whole.  Our approach is to be an unbiased listener whom you can trust and who will keep all of your concerns confidential.

All of this is done to provide validation and valuable insight, which will aid in the recovery and healing process.

What Happens During the Counseling Session?

For your first appointment we request that you arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to fill out our Consent and Intake Form(s), unless you have filled them out prior via email. In the first session you will be given the opportunity to tell your story.  The counselor will ask some questions in order to determine your needs and expectations, thereby working to build a good relationship with you in order to build understanding and trust.

It is normal to feel somewhat nervous or possibly a little bit ashamed when you first start coming. We would like to assure that there is nothing to fear or be ashamed of, it takes courage to seek out help but the rewards are worth it. Your counselor is trained to be non-judgmental and compassionate to better partner with you to bring about the desired transformation.

What is the duration of a counseling session?

The common counseling session is 50 minutes in length unless other arrangements have been made. Frequency of counseling is primarily dependent on the client’s choice, though your counselor will make recommendations that will best meet your needs.
How long will it take?

The duration of a counseling relationship depends upon the needs and issues of each client. Usually after intake a better assessment can be made. There is no straightforward answer since there are too many factors to take into consideration.
What Are The Fees Involved?

A counseling session at New Hope Counselling Centre varies depending on the counsellor/therapist’s training and expertise.  The fee is rendered on a per minute basis but a typical session is a one-hour (50 minute) session.  For fees click here.

As A Business Owner, Can My Counseling Expenses Be Covered Through My Business?

As a business owner you may be able to use our fees as a business expense. This would depend upon your coverage and type of counseling service that is requested. Life Coaching or Executive Coaching possibly may be declared as a personal development expense. All of this depends on current legislation and the line of business you are in. For further information contact a qualified tax professional or accountant.

Is Counseling / Psychotherapy Covered Under My Health Benefits?

The cost of counseling/psychotherapy may be reimbursed if your employer has provided you with an Extended Medical Benefits plan that insures professional counseling services. Your private coverage is a private contract between the company and yourself and not with the counsellor. Reimbursement is your sole responsibility. Reimbursement is not guaranteed. Each insurance company has its own policies. To confirm that coverage is available to you consult your insurer’s representative. It is important to note that the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) does not cover counseling or psychotherapy services.

A receipt is issued, at your request, and may be used for reimbursement requests or for some tax benefit.

What If I Have A Problem Attending?
